Between Mid April and Mid June 2024 the floor of the sanctuary was remodeled. A rug from the 1950s was removed and the hemlock hardwood floor was stripped of the glue backing of the rug, sanded, stained and finish coated.
This big project took about two months. Part of the time was spent to think of how to get off the rug glue and then finally figuring it out after several failed attempts. The carpet had foam under it and then glue that was a type of rubber. Nothing removed the glue easily. Sanding it clogs sandpaper fast, solvents do nothing. Scraping was difficult, it was done twice. Finally combining a heat gun with a scraper worked. It took over 30 hours to scrape again but, finally it was ready to sand and finish it.
